Healthcare Support Worker
Role Introduction
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Healthcare Support Worker to join the Children’s Community Nursing Service, working within our Continuing Care and Health Short Breaks Team. This role focuses on providing high-quality respite care for children and young people with multiple complex health needs and learning disabilities, primarily within the family home.
The service operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, so the role involves working a rota that includes days, nights, weekends, and bank holidays. We are committed to supporting flexible working arrangements wherever possible.
Although this is a clinical role, previous clinical experience is not essential. Experience working with children is beneficial, and full training will be provided. You will be well supported by an experienced and skilled team of nurses, enabling you to develop confidence and competence in your role.
As this is a community-based post, the role involves travel between family homes. Applicants must therefore hold a full UK driving licence and have access to a vehicle with business insurance cover. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference to children, young people, and their families while developing your skills within a supportive and dynamic service.
We are seeking caring, fun, resilient, and motivated individuals to work alongside a specialist team of professionals supporting children with complex needs. The role involves delivering high-quality clinical care within the family home, building positive relationships with both children and parents, and working effectively as part of a team while also being confident to work independently.
You will provide a range of engaging and hands-on care, including personal hygiene support, administering medications, delivering tube feeds, moving and handling, and most importantly enabling children to play, have fun, and thrive in their own homes. The work is varied, rewarding, and offers opportunities to develop your clinical knowledge and practical skills, with progression available to a Band 4 Associate Practitioner for those who wish to advance.
This is a cross-service role, offering the chance to work collaboratively across other clinical teams, including Hannah House, Specialist Inclusion Learning Centres, and the Children’s Nursing Team, providing a rich and supportive learning environment.
